Things that make you go WTF!

Its not very often that I start ranting about some of the cheese that you get in the 40K game system, but after tonights game against Steve, I need to suss a way to take down Mephiston!

this guy has to be worse than the space wolf special's....

OK so you start off with Transfixing gaze, now as its a leadership test, even fearless models have to take it at -4! fail well reroll all failed hits & wounds.

Ok so thats not too bad I thought... rolling in at Int 7, jesus wept he's fast!

So hitting on 3's and oh by the way he's strength 10! and its a power weapon, so instant killing any non eternal warrior multi wound model, which is most of the chaos codex.....

so if you do manage to survive the beasting from the man who can, you then hit back, 4's as an average, then onto wounding.... Toughness 6! thats the same as wraithguard!

Armour save? well it'd be rude not to offer a 2+ save with a mere five wounds to boot! and as he's a psychic hood your force weapon roll is nullified on a 4+

throw in a jumppack and fleet and this bad boy has a 19 - 24 inch threat range, the only this thats going for him is that he carn't join squads and had no inv save.

So the question is how to take him down??

Kick him in the spud or twat him with a frying pan?

  1. Teleporting termie squad with combiplasmas?

    Obliterator sniping?

Weaken him with bolter fire and general dakka to the point that the 1-2 wounds a squad will be able to put on him in CC can finish him off?

Yell, "Look, a unicorn!" and point behind your opponent, and when he turns to look hide the Mephiston figure?

  2. Hope he rolls perils of the warp? Other than that, Plasma cannons (meaning extra range over the plasma gun) and Lascannons to the face help.
Or do as I do and stop playing 40k :P

  3. Triple las predator coupled with a termicide squad (small group of combi-plasma armed chaos terminators) should so the trick :)

  4. I assume he was taking psychic power tests every time he moved like he had a jump pack??

Otherwise, not sure. Even though he's an expensive character, he is VERY powerful! I imagine the only thing that could match him toe to toe would be a Winged Hive Tyrant or something.

    You know my tactics Ant...
    - Target allocation: "The Fast Stuff"
    - Target Priority: "The Dirty Fast Stuff"
    - Target Solution: "fire everything at it until it's dead!!"

Suppose the main thing to remember is that he doesn't have an invulnerable save...rhino upto him, jump out with 10 basic csm's with melta/plasma and rapid fire...he can only make so many 2+ saves ;)

    vets + 5 plasma guns + Rhino = success!

  6. What about going toe to toe with a Summoned Greater Deamon? He's got more wounds, but you've got a 4+ invun, ignore his armour (although I bet he's got a 4++ too, cheaty bastard) At least with a Greater Deamon you've got a 50/50 chance of killing the bugger.

Otherwise, that Guard and dakka him to death with Multilasers, lascannons, plasma cannons and Plasma annihilators...

Which are all still highly viable weapons once he's been made a crater!

  7. Nothing less than all your heavy weapons with a S8+ and a AP of 2 or 1 or if failing that one thing that does take him out is a 10man squad of sternguard with combi meltas out of a drop pod
