Chillcon 2017

So this was another new show for me,also the furthest that I'd travelled north for a show!

For this one we dug out the AvP temple board, it also gave us a chance to have a mooch at the new wargames rules that Lee picked up at Salute,

Lee doing his thing!

Pics of various tables within the same room,

And some tables from the "trader" room

This time bandits game looked superb, the amount of detail was superb

And back to the tables in the demo/ open play room

a view of the demo room,

The bolt action torney

The view of the trade hall,

I managed to have a good mooch about and grabbed the following bits for the ongoing but not yet started this is not a test board!

I also found these funky looking models and they cost bugger all!!

Plently more choice on the web site four a miniatures

So overall thoughts on Chillcon considering it was the first one is that it was a bloody good effort, still a few things to work on but the board was busy during the day and a reasonable amount of people were mooching about.

were you at Chillcon, if so what were your thoughts?

Partizan 2017

With show season in full swing it was the turn of Partizan over at Newark showgrounds,

This time round we were running a game for Cavalier Books called skirmish action, Personally I'd never heard of it due to the fact that you've hundreds of WW2 rules systems out in the wargaming world now.

So knowing absolutely nothing about the system I headed over with a load of Japanese and USMC!

So one of the two phat cats boards ready to rock!

The terrain was supplied by Lee from a recent blood and plunder weekend that he recently ran, which I'll be posting fairly soon. I think it looked great and seemed to get alot of attention from the masses.

Me and the guys mid game, my dice were shocking though out the game but some how I managed to hang on!

So the usual pics from the show, some amazing detail and tables within the show!

This one was something different with the usual WW2 setting but in a bigger scale, 1/32 I think?

one of a few WW1 tables that were at the show, this one was stunning, detail was great and the over all quality of the painting of both the models and  terrain was superb! Certainly one of the contenders for best in show.

this superb jungle table was next to us, the design of the table was superb with the height, maybe the angle of the slope was a bit too extreme from a gaming point of view.

another table that was a neighbour, really good use of plastic flooring and the detail on the port area was really nice,

nice looking African type board, an awful lot of work had gone into this!

the guys from a very British civil war putting a bloody good board on again, the attention to detail I always like, the farm animals for example.

20mm modern game, massive table!

The Perry twins do the whirlwind and show the masses how its done!

the ruins caught my eye, I think they are made with corks for the round pillars?

lots of models, that's ya lot!

this was a nice table, American civil war type period but again the terrain caught my eye, really nice work,

one of the other WW1 tables that I spotted, 15mm scale, nice use of the hex terrain.

In her Majesty's name, had a quick chat with the chap who wrote the rules as I've had the rules for yonks and done bugger all with them!

This was a nice table and I was drawn to the little details on the board, had a really chat with the chap on the table and turn out hes a local from Melton so hopefully I'll bump into him again and see what he plays!

Mantic's effort, not bad but must try harder ;)

well these look familiar.....

A nice looking Japanese board, unsure on the system though

Good to see battletec still alive and kicking

The RAF boys flying the pirate flag!

Many a show I chatted to Pete, such sad news.

The rest of the guys running Battlefield heresy and after a quick chat with some of the gents it was quite popular!

more African action this time WW2, and the LRDG just for Mr Smith

Even more African action!

Then into the ice and snow!

I've always had a thing for snow tables and this one has some very simple technique that looks really good.

And that's Partizan, so overall a fairly good show, seemed quite busy with plenty of people and the queue at the start was huge, I spoke to a couple of traders and they were having a slow show, maybe that was down to the punters or the stuff that they sell who knows!

Venue with I like the Newark showgrounds, loads of natural light and really easy to get to for myself. Not sure why we now have three shows at the same venue, Both Partizan's as well as Hammerhead? seems a bit of an overload.

Tables were all really good and maybe some of the guys doing the demo zone tables need to bring them back in a bit, as they were massive however not a lot was really going on gaming wise. Less is more!
